Frequently Asked Questions

Great question! My goal is to be open in July. I am still figuring this out. I have a leased space and all of the equipment in the space. I am currently fitting the space to meet my needs and learning the equipment to produce a high quality product.

I will be offering wool and alpaca yarn, roving and batts for retail and wholesale. I will also be offering limited custom processing for producers and crafters.
-
Yes! Custom processing is when I process your fibre (wool or alpaca) for you. We will be processing a limited amount of custom and are committed to clear communication and timelines.

I am using Belfast Mini Mill Equipment. This equipment is designed for small scale production (one or two people) and is made in PEI. I am set up to process both wool and alpaca fibre. I have a tumbler, a washer, a dye vat, a large carder, a fibre separator, spinners and plyers as well as the equipment to finish yarn.
-
Not yet. I am a very small company run by one person and I don’t have capacity to offer tours while I am setting everything up. I am hoping that I can offer open houses in the summer.

Mission
Tailwinds Fibre Mill is a Lakota owned and operated fibre mill in Saskatchewan. We produce locally sourced yarn, fibre and other products to craft consumers and provide custom processing services for sheep and alpaca farmers in the prairies.
Vision
Our vision is a future where fibre connects people to land; a Lakota-owned mill that responsibly transforms local fibre into quality yarn, supports producers and strengthens a circular economy that addresses climate change while nourishing the local crafting community.
